Black History Month Essay Competition

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is proud to announce the 2019 Black History Month Essay Contest. The first annual scholarship contest, sponsored by the Office of the President, is open to all high school seniors in Cook County. The $3,500 scholarship will be used to support the award winner’s first year of college.

The scholarship recognizes a senior in high school who writes an impactful 500 – 1000 word essay on a topic related to Black History Month. The essay should answer the question, "Who or what inspires you in honor of Black History Month?"

The deadline to apply is February 14, 2019.

Scholarship Qualifications:

  • Must submit high school transcript

  • Must be a graduating high school senior (class of 2019)

  • Plan to enroll in an accredited two or four year institution of higher learning in the fall of 2019

  • No minimum GPA requirement
