THE FAIR TAX
Illinois’ current tax system is fundamentally unfair, disproportionately burdening our middle and lower-income families while creating income inequality in our state.
Under the current system, which taxes everyone at the same rate regardless of income, the top 1% of Illinoisans only have to pay approximately 7% of their income in state and local taxes. In contrast, middle and lower-income families are forced to pay nearly double – around 13% of their income in state and local taxes. The Fair Tax will help lift the burden off our working families, while finally forcing the wealthiest residents to pay their share.
What does the Fair Tax mean for Illinois?
Address Illinois’ structural budget deficit
Lift the burden off of lower and middle-income Illinoisans
Require only those making over $250,000 a year to pay more
Ensure 97% of Illinoisans see their taxes cut or remain the same
Generate additional revenue to fund our schools
Make the wealthy pay their fair share
With a fair tax, 97% of taxpayers will see some tax relief. There’s a lot of noise out there about the Fair Tax, but see for yourself how it would affect you and your family.
